Painted Sunset Over Lake Erie

Such was the scene over Lake Erie as I began my annual vacation birding the shores of northwest Ohio during the Biggest Week in American Birding. I was the guest of dear friend and fellow birder Linda Rockwell at the cozy rented cottage nestled on the sand strewn rugged shoreline in Oak Harbor, Ohio.

This night would be a splendid evening of authentic New Mexican food expertly prepared by Linda, and served to a group of birders who came from their corners of the globe to this spot, to enjoy food, friendship and our shared love of birds and nature.

A magnificent kickoff to a vacation of birding, reuniting with old friends and the pleasure of meeting new friends in person, for the first time.
